Cheapskate

This past year I have a new found passion for taking other people's unwanted junk and turning it into something I find totally AWESOME! I love DIY projects and decorating. At first my husband felt bad thinking it was because we are both too cheap to actually buy anything that costs more than $20 until he saw what it was I was actually doing and how much I enjoy doing it! I feel withdrawals when it has been too long since I have spray painted something. Seriously.

This blog will be somewhere that I can post my projects, inspiration, etc...Here are some of my projects from this past year!

Silhouettes of my kids. Cute 'eh? These are in their bathroom. One of my favorite things in my house!

This glass brass coffee table I found at the D.I. for $20!! I was pretty stoked.
I brought it home and spray painted it red. LOVE it!

The finished product.

This 80's brass chandelier I also found at the D.I. for $7.00 and knew it would be
perfect in my daughters bedroom! So fun!

These fugly couches I have had since I got married 12 years ago and they are trashed!
Back then I was into the whole country look, but my style has changed a bit.
Plus it was time for some new couches!

This is what my living room looks like now! I use to hate my living room more than any other room in my house and now it's one of my faves! I want to build a faux fireplace to go in between the 2 overstuffed chairs. Still trying to figure that one out! This whole room makeover cost me $400 including the shelves and little decorations! Found the couches in the classifieds for a killer deal!

More brass. Found this also at the thrift store for about $3. I painted it, bought a used lamp shade for a buck, bought some awesome fabric and covered it myself. It's not perfect (especially when lit up you can see all my flaws but whatever) but I think it's fun.

A little DIY wall art. I have been trying to think about what to put on my living room wall. It's a wide space and didn't want to put just anything up. Not to mention my husbands Gigantic elk on the opposite side of the room. I wanted to combine our styles. I saw Mandy's blog and fell in love. Had to make it! I really like my 3D stick art and think it pulls the room together nicely.

Found this at the thrift store and reupholstered it and painted it. I actually changed the paint from the light color to a dark brown and it turned out much better. I think the light color didn't look good with the fabric I chose. This was my first attempt to reupholster anything. I want to learn how to do bigger pieces of furniture.

Shelves from Ikea. Paper flowers I saw from Destiny's. I watched her make these on the
Nate Berkus show and thought it was easy, fun, different.

This sweet chandelier is in my living room. It's too bright (which is why I love it!)
to show up in any of my pictures. Another thrift store find for $7!

This is my wall in my family room that I just had my hubs help me put up last week. Still need to get a mat for the large picture and I want to find an initial for the bottom from. Still looking for one to fit. I love it tho! The two 8x10 frames on the left are from Ross, bottom families are forever frame a gift, and the rest are from the D.I. So happy to finally have stuff on my wall!

So there you have it! A few of my favorite finds and projects from this past year! So much fun.
